The Dragon's Eight System

Grandmaster Hogan developed his own style or system of karate called “Dragon’s Eight”.  Using eight principles outlined below, Grandmaster Hogan continues to challenge his students to learn a traditional, street-oriented approach to the martial arts, with an emphasis on personal awareness and self-defense. Through his school based at the community center in Oak Park, Michigan, also called “Dragon’s Eight”, Grandmaster Hogan has produced over 60 black belts. 

Awareness
To learn about yourself. 
To see and avoid danger or trouble. 

Humility
Freedom from arrogance.

Repetition
Do it until you perfect it.  Practice makes perfect. 

Honesty
A Pure Heart. Refusing to lie or cheat or steal or rob.

Understanding
Knowledge of what you are doing, how it works, and the ability to teach it.

Reality
No make-believe Karate.  A way to protect yourself that works on the street.

Proficiency
An Expert. Very Sharp. Extremely Skilled. Well Advanced.

Sensitivity
Emotional balance. Appreciation for beauty, art, and the softer side of life.
